About me

Photo of Jocelyn Renault

I got into programming for the money. Unfortunately, I ended up enjoying it.

And it shows in my work. When a bug won’t go away, I track down its cause instead of working around it. When I’m handed a project, I own it end to end, from the database to the interface. And when the field is new to me, I get up to speed fast: that’s the part I enjoy most.

Over the last few years, that has meant a web application built from scratch for a client, a computer-vision model improved at Sogeti, an award-winning blockchain platform at Paris Blockchain Week and a Game Boy emulator in Rust.

Next project on the list: maybe yours.

    Cross-Emu

A Game Boy and Game Boy Color emulator in Rust, built as a team: cycle-accurate CPU and graphics, sound, cartridge support, save states and a built-in debugger. Started as a school project, we kept going to make it truly faithful and enjoyable to use.

    GoldenEye - data augmentation

    Sogeti (Capgemini)

From research papers, I implemented the most promising data augmentation techniques (cross-domain color transfer, sun glitter, box-aware CutMix) so a detector trained underwater could spot marine animals in aerial photos. A Bash pipeline tests each one on a GPU server: train a Faster R-CNN, score recall, resume after any crash.

    BatonTV

A self-hosted media server at home: 16 Docker Compose services for streaming, library automation and HTTPS through a reverse proxy. The download client can only reach the internet through a WireGuard VPN, which acts as a kill switch, and a small script keeps its port in sync with the VPN. Video transcoding runs on the GPU.

Digitalizes and authenticates maritime bills of lading, built as a team over three hackathons. A React app creates the eBL, then a Java API hashes it and mints an NFT carrying that hash on the XRP Ledger, so anyone can check it was never altered. The first version used Tezos smart contracts.

    microcode

A small autonomous AI agent written from scratch in Python on top of a local Ollama model: raw API calls, tool schemas generated from docstrings, and a ReAct loop that chains web search, scraping, file reading and more.

    Vigie - Firewall Logs Analyzer

    • Hackathon: 3rd place - CND 2025
    • Hackathon: 3rd place

Sorts live firewall logs into attacks and bugs, built as a team during a cyberdefence hackathon. A FastAPI backend runs a LangGraph workflow where rules and a LightGBM model classify each log and an LLM explains unknown events. A React dashboard shows stats, fix suggestions and an AI assistant, and critical alerts trigger a phone call.

    Sogeti, part of Capgemini

    • Built an automated pipeline to test data augmentations for a marine-animal detector (Faster R-CNN): training, evaluation and results tracking, on a remote GPU server.
    • These experiments led to a method that raised the aerial-image recall of a model trained on underwater images from 5.4% to 58.3%, without retraining.
